Modern payroll accounting and NEXON.

History

The history of salary

There are several possible origins of the word 'salary'.

According to the ancient Hebrew Book of Ezra (550-450 BC), 'eating someone's salt' meant allowance or service. In the book, the servants of the Persian King Artaxerxes I expressed their loyalty in the following way, 'as we live on the palace's salt', 'we are supplied by the King', 'we report to the King.'

According to other sources, the word 'soldier' is derived from the Latin 'soldius' meaning 'coin', which was given to soldiers for their service. 'Salarium' meant the permission to buy salt, or the money spent on the defence of the salt-roads (Via Salarium) leading to Rome. Read about the history of salary  »

Modern payroll accounting and NEXON

The founders of NEXON saw the potential in doing the payroll on an IT basis back in 1985, at the dawn of PCs. The development of computerised payroll accounting in Hungary has been inextricably linked to the company's development.

The IBM XT computer, now a museum piece, was used with the first NEXON software, which was mostly written in machine code. Thousands of employees' payroll could have been processed far more quickly in this manner. What other applications could manage in hours, NEXON's software - later called BERENC - could tackle in a couple of minutes. Obviously, because BERENC was in up-to-date compliance with the regulations, it became increasingly popular with the users. BERENC was purchased by the companies as follows: Agroker (Agricultural Trading Co), Röltex (Haberdashery), Vasért (Iron Trading Co), Központi Statisztikai Hivatal (Central Statistical Office), Magyar Tudományos Akadémia (Hungarian Academy of Science) and APEH (State Tax Authority).
